We conducted another environmental education activities at Sophia Forest in Karuizawa on June 23-24 (Saturday and Sunday). Twenty graduate students and three faculty members and one staff member joined the trip. This time, several members of Karuizawa Nature Club participated in our activities and kindly and eagerly explained to us about the diversity of insects and animals living in the forest. On Sunday, we learned from a lead member of the nature club about the impressive Satoyama activities that they are conducting in Karuizawa. The trip to Karuizawa and the activities in the Sophia Forest are conducted in the co-operations with the District Forest Office and the Forest Association in the region and being financially supported by the Green Fund provided by the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization.
